While John Fetterman was watching the election returns last night, he was also continuing to recover from a stroke that he suffered over the weekend, and a temporary Lt. Governor was put in place as he continues to recover.
Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf yesterday announced that Jake Corman will temporarily assume the Lt. Governor’s duties. According to a statement from Wolf, the transfer of power is intended to be a short-term transfer and expects Fetterman to resume his duties “very soon.”
In accordance with state law, a declaration was sent from a majority of designated cabinet secretaries and the president pro tempore to the general assembly. That declaration said that the Lt. Governor is temporarily unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office. That declaration went out after it was announced that Fetterman would be undergoing a standard procedure to implant a pacemaker with defibrillator in his heart.
In a tweet, Fetterman said that it was a successful operation and he is anticipating a full recovery. He can return to office four days after a written declaration is sent by his office to the General Assembly noting that no disability exists.
