The race for Pennsylvania Governor, Lt. Governor and U.S. Senate are set following an eventful night of primary elections.
In the GOP race, Sen. Doug Mastriano won in sizeable fashion after garnering 44.71 percent of votes across the state and 54.21 percent of votes in Indiana County. Mastriano fell behind early in the night after William McSwain pulled ahead within the first hour of tabulation, but he quickly took command within two hours. Attorney General Josh Shapiro earned the Democrat nomination after he ran unopposed and earned more than 2,500 votes.
Lou Barletta finished third in voting across the state with a little more than 10 percent of votes.
In the race for Lt. Governor of Pennsylvania, Carrie Delrosso will be the Republican nominee and she will oppose Austin Davis, who earned the Democrat vote. Delrosso held the lead throughout the night and finished with 36.89 percent of votes, beating out Jeffrey Coleman and Richard Saccone, who each finished with 17 percent of votes. In Indiana County, Delrosso led with 27 percent of votes.
The race for the open seat in the U.S. Senate saw a tight race on the Republican ticket and a large victory on the Democrat ticket.
John Fetterman won the vote for the Democrat ticket on both a statewide and countywide level. His wife Giselle said following his win that he has a plan for PA.
Fetterman earned 59 percent of votes across the state and 63 percent of votes in Indiana County.
On the Republican side, but ultimately, David McCormick tallied 31.6 percent of votes to beat Dr. Mehmet Oz, who finished with 31.1 percent of votes.
McCormick said his supporters really showed up for him.
From a county standpoint, McCormick edged Dr. Oz by less than 50 percent of a vote.
Along with the primary elections for the Big Three positions – GOP, Lt. Governor and U.S. Senate – a few local primaries took place last night.
The most competitive race was for the Republican State Committee in the 32nd District, as Patricia Streams-Warman beat out James Zerfoss and Jesse Daniel with 47.88 percent of votes.
For the Democratic State Committee race in the 32nd District, Ronald Fairman edged Ann Rea 53.15 percent of votes to 46.85 percent of votes.
Some local elections were determined from the start as many nominees ran unopposed.
In the Congressional Representative race, Glenn “G.T.” Thompson won the nomination in the 15th Congressional District, while Guy Reschenthaler won the nomination for the 14th Congressional District.
In the race for State Representative, Jim Struzzi won the Republication nomination while Brian Doyle won the nomination on the Democrat ticket. Both ran unopposed.
Meanwhile, in the 66th Legislative District, Brian Smith won the Republican nomination.
