The Penguins face their second straight game against the league-leading Colorado Avalanche tomorrow night, coming off a 3-2 loss to the Avs on Saturday in Denver. This time, the game will be played at PPG Paints Arena, and while the Pens acquitted themselves very well on Saturday, they still lost, 3-2, and they now stand two points behind the second place Rangers and six in back of first place Carolina.
Coach Mike Sullivan says he will take the kind of effort he saw from his team on Saturday.
Colorado’s game-winning goal came on a weird carom off the boards behind the Penguins’ net, right onto the stick of Devon Toews. Sullivan says those things happen, and you have to accept them.
Captain Sidney Crosby said after Saturday’s game that it could very easily have been a win for the Penguins.
The Penguins had the day off yesterday, so there is no update on the condition of left wing Jason Zucker, who suffered a leg injury on Thursday in Minnesota. Sullivan indicated that an evaluation of the extent of the injury would not be available until he was examined back in Pittsburgh.
