Drivers got some sticker shock as they saw a large jump in the cost of gas in Indiana County yesterday.
Gasbuddy.com reports that as of this morning, many gas stations in Indiana, Homer City, Blairsville and Clymer saw increases from $3.69 a gallon on Tuesday to $3.89 a gallon yesterday, an increase of 20 cents over a 24-hour period. The price of crude oil once again surged to over $100 a barrel yesterday as the Russian invasion of Ukraine continues. President Joe Biden said during his state of the union address that America will release 30 million barrels from the Strategic Petroleum reserve.
Last week, when the Russian invasion of Ukraine began, State Senator Joe Pittman announced in a joint statement that he was joining Senators Gene Yaw and Wayne Langerholic, Jr. in their call for President Biden to re-start the Keystone XL pipeline as another way to lessen the impact of the surge in gas prices.
Indiana county’s average prices for a gallon of gas is now $3.81 a gallon, according to Triple-A, with Pennsylvania’s average now at $3.87 a gallon, and the national average now at $3.72 a gallon.
