The District 6 championship games are tonight for Class Triple-A and tomorrow night for Class Double-A. Three Heritage Conference teams are looking to win championships, starting tonight with the girls Triple-A title game featuring second seeded River Valley against top seed Forest Hills.
Coach Ric Brown’s River Valley Panthers come into tonight’s game with a record of 20-4 and off wins over Huntingdon and Penn Cambria in the playoffs. Forest Hills is 20-5, with playoff wins over Penns Valley and Westmont Hilltop. Common opponents include Richland and Bishop McCort. Forest Hills swept two games over Richland, and River Valley beat Richland in their only meeting. As for Bishop McCort, River Valley beat the top-seeded Double-A team while Forest Hills lost twice to the Crushers.
Tonight’s game will be on Cat Country, 106.3 FM and on Renda Digital TV, which you can watch by visiting catcountry1063fm.com.
The River Valley girls will get a big sendoff on their way to Central Cambria for tonight’s championship game. The bus will leave the school at 4:10 PM and take a detour through Blairsville on its way.
Tomorrow night, in the Double-A championships, Homer Center will take on Bishop McCort for the girls title and Penns Manor will clash with Portage for the boys championship. Both of those games will be simulcast on Cat Country 106.3 FM and WCCS, FM 101.1 and AM 1160, and you can also watch both of them on Renda Digital TV, which you can access by visiting either station’s website.
SMULIK COMMITS TO LA ROCHE
Another Heritage Conference basketball note today: West Shamokin star forward Trevor Smulik announced on his Twitter account and the school’s Facebook page yesterday that he has accepted an offer to play college basketball for La Roche University.
In last Saturday’s game against Portage, Smulik passed Dylan Henderson to become West Shamokin’s all-time leading scorer, with 1,463 points.
