If you were to place probabilities on the total accumulation AccuWeather predicts for the snowstorm coming later today, your best bet would be 6 to 10 inches. The weather service places that as a 58 percent probability. However, the next most likely scenario, at 29 percent, is for 10 to 15 inches. There is an 11 percent chance it could fall in the 3 to 6 inch range.
AccuWeather predicts the snow will start slowly, at about 4 o’clock and at around 7 o’clock it will begin to come down harder, about a half-inch an hour, with the highest amounts falling until about 1 AM before it eases but continues through the early morning tomorrow.
Travel restrictions will be in place on major highways. There are no scheduled classes in any of Indiana County’s school districts because of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and Head Start is also scheduled off. The Little Apples, Sprouts, and Buds preschools have already posted that they will be closed on Monday as well.
The snowstorm coincides with the start of the spring semester at IUP. Many students arrived back on campus over the weekend to beat the storm. With Martin Luther King Jr. Day tomorrow, IUP does not start classes until Tuesday.
