One might expect a surly Mike Tomlin today when the Steelers coach holds his weekly news conference, after the beating the team took in Kansas City. But Tomlin is aware that the Steelers still have a shot at the playoffs, if they can beat Cleveland and Baltimore in the season’s final two weeks, and they HAVE beaten both the Browns and Ravens this year.
The coach has a new item on his agenda as offensive line coach Adrian Klemm left the team yesterday to return to college football. Klemm has been named the offensive line coach/run game coordinator, and assistant head coach to new Oregon coach Dan Lanning. Tomlin was reportedly told last week that Klemm would be leaving and he released him yesterday, perhaps stung by the historically poor performance of his running game and his bumbling offensive line. Assistant O-line coach Chris Morgan will take over for the Steelers.
A number of Steelers players showed up at the team’s South Side training complex Monday, apparently eager to get to work in preparation for Monday night’s game against the Browns, which very well could be Ben Roethlisberger’s last home game ever. The Steelers will not get a home playoff game, and if Big Ben retires, he’ll never get the chance to play at Heinz Field again.
