With Cleveland losing to the Las Vegas Raiders last night, the AFC North Division has a completely different look this week than it did last week. The Bengals hold the top spot at 8-6 with the Ravens also 8-6 but trailing in the tiebreaker. Then come the Steelers at 7-6-1 and the Browns at 7-7.
The road to the playoffs is tough for the Steelers. They are ten-point underdogs against the Chiefs on Sunday in Kansas City, and they follow that up with games against the Browns and then the Ravens to close out the season. The Colts, Chargers, Bills, and Ravens are a half-game ahead of the Steelers for the three wild card spots.
Coach Mike Tomlin is expected to hold his weekly news conference today and perhaps talk about the availability of tight end Pat Freiermuth, who took a shot to the head in Sunday’s win over the Titans and was placed in concussion protocol. Fellow tight end Zach Gentry told reporters that Freiermuth was at the team facility yesterday on the South Side and was in good spirits.
The Steelers released defensive back Isaiah Johnson from the practice squad, returned defensive back Linden Stephens to the practice squad, and put guard Malcolm Pidgeon on the practice squad covid list.
The Chiefs placed All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce on the covid protocol list yesterday, along with kicker Harrison Butker and cornerback Charvarius Ward.
