The late Pirates’ manager Danny Murtaugh once again came up short of the Baseball Hall of Fame yesterday, failing to get close to the 75 percent vote of the 16-member Golden Days Era Committee. Gil Hodges, Jim Kaat, Minnie Minoso, and Tony Oliva were voted in. The Early Baseball Era Committee elected Bud Fowler and Buck O’Neil.
Murtaugh won 1,115 games and two World Series as a big league manager. His .540 winning percentage is better than 11 other managers already in the Hall of Fame and is the same as Hall member Leo Durocher.
