A familiar name is entering the race for Pennsylvania’s soon-to-be-vacant U.S. Senate seat, and it’s a familiar name to many TV viewers.
Dr. Mehmet Oz, the talk show host who rose to fame with his appearances on the Oprah Winfrey Show, announced on Tuesday that he will run for the Republican nomination to the U.S. Senate. Oz, however, is a longtime resident of New Jersey, and while he lives there most of the time, he has voted in Pennsylvania Elections via absentee ballot. Medical issues plans to be a major plank in his platform, as he said in a brief video statement that he is ready to take on a government that in his opinion mishandled the Covid-19 pandemic.
He joins a crowded field for the GOP nomination, including Jeff Bartos, Carla Sands, Kathy Barnette, Everett Stern, Sean Gale, Martin Rosenfeld, Bobby Jeffries, John DeBellis, Ronald Johnson, James Hayes and Craig Snyder. Those running for the Democratic nomination include John Fetterman, Connor Lamb, Malcolm Kenyatta, Val Arkoosh, Sharif Street, Kevin Baumlin, John McGuigan, Alexandria Khalil, Brandaun Dean, Eric Orts, Kyle Norton, Larry Johnson, Alan Shank, and Llewllyn Tapera.
