Last fall, IUP held its first “walking audit” and they are working to make some of the items discussed between leadership and students.
The audits were held in September of 2020, and took place in areas like the Oak Grove, Sutton Hall and Wallwork Hall. After hearing from the students who were on campus, a working group of administrators, faculty and students have overseen a lot of changes on campus. That information was taken to President Driscoll’s office last December.
Some of the changes included the conversion of some of the restrooms across campus to “all-gender” restrooms. Over seventy restrooms that had been labelled either handicapped or family restrooms are now clearly labelled as “all-gender”, and the group is looking toward a goal of having an “all-gender” restroom in each campus building.
Another part that was suggested by students during the “walking audit” was the recognition of the LGBTQIA+ community. One of those maneuvers was the dedication of a flagpole with the Progress Pride flag that now flies outside Elkin Hall where the Center for Multicultural Student Leadership and Engagement office is located.
