In a game that Coach Mike Tomlin said they had to win, the Steelers defense was shredded by the Cincinnati offense and Ben Roethlisberger had a terrible day passing the football. The Bengals dealt the Steelers playoff chances a severe blow with a 41-10 blowout win that was never close.
Linebacker TJ Watt, who along with Minkah Fitzpatrick rejoined the starting lineup after sitting out last week against the Chargers, said it was “absolutely embarrassing,” and Tomlin said the Steelers “stunk it up.”
The Bengals ran for 198 yards, 165 of them by Joe Mixon, and quarterback Joe Burrow threw for 190 yards on 20-of-24 passing, his only blemish being a Fitzpatrick interception that Roethlisberger promptly gave right back in the form of a pick-six interception by former Steeler Mike Hilton. Big Ben threw two interceptions and lost a fumble. Hilton’s touchdown gave the Bengals a 31-3 halftime lead.
Now at 5-5-1, the Steelers play another AFC North rival, first-place Baltimore, on Sunday afternoon at Heinz Field.
