The Penguins’ five-game winning streak, which began with a win in Montreal, came to an end last night with a 6-3 loss to the Canadiens at PPG Paints Arena.
Most of the scoring took place in the game’s closing minutes, when the Penguins turned a 3-1 deficit into 3-2 on a goal by Jeff Carter, with the goaltender pulled. Montreal answered with another goal before Sidney Crosby netted one before the Pens gave up two more empty-net goals to seal it for the Canadiens.
Evan Rodridues also scored the the Penguins, skating on Crosby’s wing on the top line with Bryan Rust out of the lineup with a lower body injury.
Tristan Jarry had the night off and Casey DeSmith started in goal, stopping 27 of 30 shots. Meanwhile, the Penguins dominated puck possession and peppered Canadiens goaltender Jake Allen with 50 shots on goal, 31 of them while the Crosby line was on the ice. Crosby had a goal and two assists.
