At his weekly news conference yesterday, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin blamed himself for not reacting quickly enough to Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert in Sunday night’s loss, but quickly moved on to the matter at hand, preparations for Sunday afternoon’s AFC North game against rival Cincinnati.
Tomlin expects to get a bunch of defensive players back from the medical ward in time for Sunday’s game, including linebacker TJ Watt, safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, cornerback Joe Haden, and rising defensive lineman Isaiah Loudermilk. While those players are returning, the Steelers yesterday placed Ray-Ray McCloud on the reserve/covid list, and Tomlin said tight end Eric Ebron and guard JC Hassenauer are dealing with new injuries.
Tomlin says there are no secrets between the Steelers and Bengals.
The roster shuffle yesterday included the promotion of tight end Kevin Rader to the 53-man roster, the signing of guard Rashaad Coward and tight end Jace Sternberger to the practice squad, and the release of quarterback James Morgan from the practice squad.
