The Pirates have a habit of signing veteran left-handers in the off-season, getting some mileage out of them, and then trading them for prospects at the trade deadline. Over the weekend they agreed to a one-year, $2 million contract with veteran lefty Jose Quintana, who has played previously for the White Sox, Cubs, Angels, and most recently the Giants.
Quintana is 83-80 in his Major League career with a 3.84 ERA. He was an AL All-Star replacement player in 2016. Last season, he was 0-3 with a 6.43 ERA in an injury-plagued year with the Angels and Giants.
MLB
Japanese star Seiya Suzuki is coming to MLB. The Nippon Professional Baseball outfielder will be posted on Monday, and MLB teams will have until December 22nd to sign him. The 27-year-old has spent the last nine seasons playing for Hiroshima. He hit .319 with 38 home runs and 88 RBI this past season.
