The Marion Center School Board will hold a combined planning and voting meeting tonight.
Along with the reports from district administrators and officials that would come during the planning meeting, the board will also hold another discussion regarding the masking of students. Currently, the mask mandate remains in effect as an appeal is set to be heard in State Supreme Court. Earlier this month, Commonwealth Court had thrown out the mandate from the state Department of Health as they felt that Acting Secretary Allison Beam had overstepped her bounds by putting the mask mandate in effect outside of an emergency declaration. The Wolf administration filed an immediate appeal, putting the mask mandate back in effect for now. A Commonwealth Court judge had declared that the mask mandate would be removed on December 4th, essentially putting control of the mask mandates back in the hands of the individual districts.
Among the items up for approval today are a motion to authorize the Indiana County Assessment Office to complete an interim property assessment for the 2022 school year for properties in the district, the hiring of two nutrition service employees for both buildings in the district, and the resignations of a long-term substitute, the assistant cheer coach and track and field coach.
One other note, tonight’s meeting will not be held via Zoom video conference. Superintendent Clint Weimer talks about why they are not going with the video conference meetings.
Anyone who wants to attend the meeting must call the district at 724-397-5551 extension 5000 to reserve a seat.
