After two days of black bear season, the Pennsylvania Game Commission reports that Indiana County has taken relatively few bears.
The statewide black bear rifle season got underway on Saturday, and after a day where there were no reported bear harvests, Indiana County hunters reported four bears taken on Sunday. A total of ten bears have been taken so far this year, with the majority of them being taken during archery and muzzleloader season. Sixteen were taken in Clearfield County to bring the total harvest to 80 bears. Three in Jefferson County to make a total of 60, Armstrong County added four to bring its total to 50. Eighteen total bears have been taken in Westmoreland County, including the one taken yesterday, and Cambria added two to make it 13 on the year so far.
Black bear season wraps up on Tuesday, but there will be an extended session next weekend for selected areas of the state, including a small area in southern Indiana County that lies in Wildlife Management Unit 2C.
And just a reminder, rifle deer season starts this Saturday.
