WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
IUP blew out Mount Aloysius in the Education Day game yesterday, 101-35. The Crimson Hawks put the game away with a 32-0 run in the first quarter.
Justine Mascara and Kiera Baughman each scored 16 for IUP. Maria Cerro and Rajah Fink each had 12. The 3-0 Crimson Hawks play District of Columbia at 4 PM Sunday at the KCAC.
FOOTBALL
IUP’s football team led the division with 17 total divisional selections for the All-PSAC West team. It’s a new program record. Eight of the players are first-teamers: running back Justice Evans, offensive linemen Darrell Davis and Josh Dauberman, receiver Duane Brown, defensive end Tyrone Fowler Jr., linebacker Malachi Newell, kicker Tyler Luther, and punter Dylan Grubbs.
The nine second teamers are quarterback Harry Woodberry, offensive linemen John Robinson and Collin Pietropola, tight end Grant Smith, receiver Irv Charles, defensive end Vaughan Wallace, defensive backs Darius Bruce and Jaheim Howard, and return man Oashah Carter.
Twelve of the seventeen All-PSAC West honorees are underclassmen and could return next year.
Defensive end Justin Fowler Jr. was named the PSAC West Freshman of the Year, after totaling 29 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, seven sacks, and three forced fumbles. Fowler’s strip sack in the final minute Saturday set up IUP to score the winning touchdown in the season finale victory over West Chester.
