The lights will be on at Heinz Field tonight when the Pitt Panthers host the North Carolina Tar Heels in an important ACC football game. Pitt is 7-2 and 4-1 in the ACC Coastal Division. The Panthers are coming off a 54-29 win over Duke last Saturday. North Carolina is 5-4 and 4-3 in the division. The Tar Heels knocked off previously unbeaten Wake Forest in a shootout last week, 58-55.
Coach Pat Narduzzi says playing on Thursday after a Saturday game limits a team’s ability to add a twist or two to the game plan.
In addition to the game itself, tonight will also feature a matchup of two of college football’s best quarterbacks. Pitt’s Kenny Pickett is ranked number one among Mel Kiper Jr.’s NFL Draft quarterback prospects. North Carolina’s Sam Howell is number five.
Narduzzi says Howell is as big as a linebacker, as fast as a tailback, and can sit back in the pocket and pick apart a defense. And he says Howell is better now than he was last season.
Narduzzi says he’s been told there will be 36 NFL scouts and front office personnel at the game tonight looking at the quarterbacks.
You’ll hear the game tonight on WCCS. The pregame airs at 5:30, with kickoff at 7:30.
