The dry conditions over the last few days have made conditions once again ripe for brush fires, and six have been reported in the area over the last two days.
This recent string of brush fires started on Monday with a fire on Deyarmin Road in Buffington Township at 1:38 PM. Both Vintondale and Brush Valley fire departments were dispatched for that. Within an hour, a second brush fire was reported in Logan Drive in Armstrong Township. Indiana firefighters were called out for that fire. Indiana firefighters were also called out to assist Creekside firefighters with a brush fire at 3:51 PM on Route 110 in Rayne Township.
And yesterday, three more brush fires were reported. The first was on Lucas Road in Montgomery Township at1:18 PM, with Glen Campbell and Commodore fire departments dispatched for that. Then Iselin firefighters were called into Armstrong County for a brush fire on North Long Road at 5:25 PM. Then Big Run fire department was called out a minute later for a brush fire on Lockvale Road in Banks Township.
This brings the tally to 86 brush fires for this year. Indiana Fire Association is asking residents not to burn leaves due to the dry conditions as a spark can set the ground cover on fire very quickly.
