Jury selection is slated to begin today for the trial of one of the two men charged with breaking into an Indiana Borough business on Christmas Eve of last year.
Court documents show that the trial of 21-year-old Jacob Alan Lawson of Blairsville is set to get underway this week, as jury selection will get underway this morning. He is charged with burglary, criminal trespass, theft by unlawful taking, possession of an instrument of crime and criminal mischief-tampering with property for the burglary at Top Shelf Tobacco on December 24th, 2020. Police said he, along with 22-year-old Bailey Charles Edwards of Indiana, broke into the tobacco shop at 800 Wayne Avenue, but set off an alarm in the process. Police were dispatched at 5:52 AM and did not find anyone inside but discovered a window open. After a second alarm was triggered an hour later, the business owner gave police access to video surveillance and it showed the two men breaking into the shop. The two fled the scene before Indiana Borough police got there, but they were picked up later on. IUP police assisted in the investigation.
Edwards entered a guilty plea to a single charge of burglary, and was ordered to serve one month to a day less than two years in Indiana County Jail, and two years of probation.
Juries will also be selected today for a New Florence man charged with strangling a woman as part of an assault in West Wheatfield Township on October 30th of last year. 32-year-old Bradley Vincent Borg was also charged with simple assault, harassment or criminal mischief for the incident at a home on Gamble Road. He is accused of assaulting the female victim and damaging a laptop computer in the process.
