Indiana Borough will pay tribute to a man who served as its mayor by rededicating a building in his name.
Borough officials will hold ceremonies today to rededicate the borough building at 8th and Water Street in honor of former Mayor George Hood. Hood was a graduate of Indiana High School and attended IUP, and served two years in the U.S. Army. He was elected Indiana Borough Mayor in 1997 and started in January of 1998. For the next 23 years, Hood would serve as the borough mayor, overseeing many events including the borough’s bicentennial celebration in 2016 and several military send-offs and homecomings.
Hood stepped down in January of this year after he moved out of Indiana Borough to live with his daughter after several health issues. Earlier this year, Joseph Trimarchi was named acting mayor, and last Tuesday, voters elected Bill Simmons as the new mayor of the borough.
Ceremonies start at 1:00 PM today.
