Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said yesterday that Chris Boswell is still in concussion protocol after the kicker was injured Sunday at Cleveland.
Tomlin said there does not appear to be anything alarming about Boswell’s condition. As insurance, the Steelers signed former Jaguars kicker Josh Lambo to their practice squad yesterday. Lambo was released two weeks ago by Jacksonville, where he’d been the kicker the last seven years. Because the next game for Pittsburgh is not until Monday night against the Bears, they have until Sunday to sign Lambo to the active roster if Boswell is not cleared to play.
Tight end Eric Ebron was the only other active player Tomlin mentioned in his injury update. He has a hamstring problem.
Tomlin said playing the nationally televised game on Monday night against the Bears will be special.
Tomlin said that by this point in the season, he expects his team to eliminate some of their more glaring mistakes, mentioning offensive line penalties as one big problem area.
The team begins preparations today for the Bears, and he says there are a number of approaches to the penalty problem.
The Steelers yesterday traded linebacker Melvin Ingram III to the Chiefs and signed former Cowboys number-one draft choice Taco Charlton from their practice squad. Charlton played 10 downs against the Browns on Sunday. They released defensive lineman Chris Slayton from the practice squad and added defensive lineman Khalil Davis.
