The Houston Astros scored four runs in the second inning to break open the game and went on to a 7-2 win over Atlanta in Game Two of the World Series last night. The series is now tied, 1-1, and headed to Atlanta tomorrow night. Rookie Jose Sori raced home when the Braves’ Eddie Rosario threw to an uncovered third base in the second inning to set the stage for the four-run second. Jose Altuve doubled and homered for the Astros.
Game Three tomorrow will feature the Astros’ Luis Garcia against the Braves’ Ian Anderson.
The Pirates’ minor league award announcements continued yesterday with the naming of Oneil Cruz as the Willie Stargell Slugger of the Year, Cruz played the bulk of the year at Altoona before a late-season promotion to Indianapolis and then to the big leagues for the final weekend of the season. He hit a combined .310 with 17 home runs and 47 RBIs despite missing a substantial part of the season with a forearm injury.
Bradenton and Greensboro pitcher Enmanuel Mejia was named the winner of the Kent Tekulve Reliever of the Year award.
Greensboro outfielder Lolo Sanchez is the Omar Moreno Baserunner of the Year, and his teammate, third baseman Jared Triolo, won the Bill Mazeroski Defender of the Year award.
Today, the Pirates will name the Honus Wagner Player of the Year and the Bob Friend Pitcher of the Year.
