In a must-win game, the IUP field hockey team beat Mercyhurst, 2-0, to stay in a three-way tie with Mansfield and Slippery Rock for the sixth and final PSAC playoff chase. Rory Cahill and Blaise Cugini scored IUP’s goals in the fourth quarter. IUP plays Kutztown on Saturday night at home, needing a win and some help to make the playoffs.
The IUP women’s soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to UPJ yesterday at Richland High School, where the game was moved because UPJ’s field was unplayable. Hannah Scardina tied the game at 1-1 in the 77th minute, but ninety seconds later, scored the game-winner. IUP is two points out of the last playoff slot with three games to play. They host Seton Hill on Saturday.
