High School Football enters week nine tonight, and it’s the last week of the Heritage Conference regular season, with the WestPAC crossover games and the Appalachian Bowl happening next week.
Tonight’s schedule is highlighted by Homer Center’s non-conference game on WCCS against mid-state power Muncy, out of Lycoming County. Like Homer Center, the Indians lost their first game of the season and have won seven straight since then.
Wildcats coach Greg Page says Homer Center stands to gain a lot in the District 6 rankings if they can win.
Page says the fans will see a show tonight.
Page knows Muncy is a very good football team.
Muncy coach Sean Tetreault says they jumped at the chance to come to Homer Center tonight.
On WQMU tonight, the Marion Center Stingers travel to 4-4 West Shamokin, with the 4-4 Stingers sitting one spot out of the AA playoffs, needing a win and a Mount Union loss to Claysburg-Kimmel to climb into the #8 spot with a week to go.
Marion Center coach Adam Rising knows the key tonight will be stopping West Shamokin’s offense, led by Beau Schwartz.
West Shamokin comes into the game reeling from a big loss to Conemaugh Valley, and having trouble stopping their opponents’ run game. Coach Jon McCullough says they aren’t looking at the district playoffs just yet, but just for some consistent defense.
On Cat Country, 106.3 FM tonight, River Valley is coming off two straight losses as the Panthers travel to 1-7 Northern Cambria.
River Valley coach Jess Houser is looking for improved play from his offensive line.
Colts coach Sam Shutty’s team has struggled to find consistency but he says his guys are still fighting for wins.
The other games in the Heritage Conference tonight are 4-4 Purchase Line at 8-0 Cambria Heights, and 2-6 Penns Manor visiting 0-8 United.
On WDAD tonight, Indiana has a big game as the 4-4 Little Indians travel to 1-7 Mars, with Indiana still in the hunt for a spot in the WPIAL playoffs.
Coach Brandon Overdorff says Mars is getting better every week.
