FOOTBALL
Derry Area has relieved football coach Vince Skillings of his duties and will play its final two games this season with a makeshift coaching staff, including athletic director Brett Miller. Derry is 0-and-7 and has scored only 43 points all season while giving up 384. Skillings was hired to replace Tim Sweeney, who had gone 49-18 in six seasons. Derry was 2-3 last season.
Derry will play at home on Friday night against Burrell, then finish the season next against powerhouse North Catholic.
VOLLEYBALL
Purchase Line edged United, 3-2. United won the JV game, 2-0.
The Heritage Conference volleyball championship night is set for next Wednesday at the KCAC. In the semifinals, Cambria Heights will face Homer Center in the first match, followed by West Shamokin against Marion Center. The winners will then face off against each other. Doors will open at the KCAC at 4:30 with the first semifinal at 6.
CROSS COUNTRY
The Heritage Conference cross country championships will happen today at Marion Center High School. The Stingers are the defending champs for both girls and boys.
