Sentencing hearings are scheduled for today in Indiana County Court, including three hearings for one man.
40-year-old James Emanuel Emerson, who has addresses in New Florence and Indiana, will be in court today to be sentenced for guilty pleas to possession of a controlled substance and providing false ID to a law enforcement officer in October of 2020, flight to avoid apprehension in July of that year, and DUI and purchase or receiving a controlled substance in February of that year. Emerson had been on the State Police “Five Most Wanted” list and was apprehended in late October last year. He had been on the list for failure to comply with Meghan’s Law.
Also due for sentencing is Thomas Earl Kearney, a 41-year-old man from Altoona who pleaded guilty to retail theft for an incident in May of 2019. At that time, Kearney tried to steal over $3000 worth of electronics from the Walmart in White Township before a store employee caught him trying to load the goods into his car. On the same day, he went to the Blairsville Walmart and tried to steal more items, but was once again caught by a Walmart employee. With his guilty plea, charges of receiving stolen property and criminal mischief-damaging property were not prosecuted.
