Indiana Borough Police say a borough resident was scammed out of $27,000 in a series of phone calls and emails.
Police say that they were finally alerted to this on October 9th. The victim, who was not identified by police, was convinced by a scammer that he or she was investing money. The perpetrator then asked the victim to buy gift cards from large retailers and read the numbers on the cards off to the scammer.
Police encourage everyone to carefully investigate any internet or phone based requests for money or for investments. Anyone who has fallen victim to this scam is asked to call the FBI scam complaint hotline at 1-855-324-7257.
