After completing their preseason with a 4-3 overtime win Saturday night in Columbus, the Penguins are in Tampa Bay for their season opening game tomorrow night against the two-time defending Stanley Cup champion Lightning.
Sidney Crosby did accompany the team to Florida, but he will not be ready to play for several weeks. The injured Penguins’ captain joined his teammates for a Saturday morning skate and handled the puck with his surgically-repaired wrist.
The Pens still have not set their final roster, although they sent veteran defenseman Juuso Riikola to Wilkes Barre/Scranton over the weekend. The roster must be set by five o’clock this afternoon.
Coach Mike Sullivan says the team did what it needed to do in training camp.
Sullivan says his group is ready to go, even with the final decisions not yet made on the makeup of the roster.
Defenseman Mark Friedman was fined $1,812.50 by the NHL for spearing Columbus forward Sean Kuraly Saturday night.

The New York Rangers have signed star center Mika Zibanejad to an eight-year $68 million contract. He’s only 28 but entering his 11th year in the NHL, his sixth with the Rangers.
