A New Florence man is in the Westmoreland County Prison after allegedly threatening three family members by pointing a gun at them on Tuesday of this week.
49-year-old Corey Kaufman is being held without bond because “No Condition or combination of conditions can ensure the safety of (the) defendant or others”, according to the notation placed on his docket by district Judge Charles R. Conway.
Kaufman was picked up from Ligonier Valley police custody by a relative on Tuesday, but the relative said he was intoxicated and argumentative. When he got home, he grabbed a beer and the gun and pointed the pistol at two family members, threatening to kill them. He pointed the loaded gun next at a wall and pulled the trigger, but it did not fire. Then he pointed the gun at another family member while outside on the porch. That relative took the gun away from him.
In all, Kaufman is charged with 13 criminal offenses, including three felony counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, three misdemeanor counts each of simple assault and recklessly endangering another person, and two misdemeanor counts apiece of harassment and terroristic threats.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for next Friday before District Judge Denise Thiel in Ligonier.
