State police say a Johnstown man wanted for killing a man and dumping his body in Indiana County last January has been captured in North Carolina and extradition proceedings are pending. In addition, a Johnstown mother and daughter are facing charges for hindering the apprehension.
28-year-old Dionte Demond Jones is accused of shooting to death Dashawn Cornelius Green on January 18th at a home on C Street in Johnstown. City police responded that night to a report of approximately five shots fired, but could not find a victim. On January 21st, a PennDOT highway maintenance worker inspecting a drain found Green’s body in a grassy area along Mulligan Hill Road in West Wheatfield Township. Coroner Jerry Overman Jr. pronounced him dead at the scene. Meanwhile, Green’s girlfriend and family had reported him missing on the 19th after being unable to contact him the night before.
On January 27th, state troopers executed a search warrant on the C Street residence and found seven 9-millimeter shell casings, a large area of dried blood about 55 to 65 feet from the back door of the home, and four bullet strikes into the ground. The blood matched Green’s.
Dionte Jones was taken into custody yesterday in Fayetteville, North Carolina after he was charged last Saturday with criminal homicide.
23-year-old Janayah Precious Smith is charged with four felony counts of hindering apprehension or prosecution and misdemeanor counts of abuse of a corpse and obstruction. She is in the Cambria County Prison with bond set at $75,000. Her mother, 58-year-old Joyce Ann Smith, is in the prison on three counts of hindering apprehension and a single count of obstruction.
