The Pirates’ Oneil Cruz had two hits in his Major League debut and fueled a rally from a 5-0 deficit to beat the Reds 8-6.
Cruz hit a seventh-inning single with an exit velocity of 118.6 miles per hour, the hardest hit ball by a Pirate since they began measuring exit velocity. Bryan Reynolds had four hits for the Pirates in the next-to-last game of the season. Reynolds got his batting average back over .300 and fell just a home run shy of the cycle. He is hitting .304 headed into today’s season finale, which features Mitch Keller pitching for the Pirates in their final chance to get a series sweep of the season.
The Pirates are 0-for-13 when going for the sweep this year.
