After five years of residents having to drive to Homer City to pick up their mail, there will finally be a new Coral Post Office opening soon in Center Township.
The new location will be at 437 First Avenue, on property leased from the Coral-Graceton Volunteer Fire Department, according to State Representative Jim Struzzi, who made the announcement yesterday. Struzzi credited the Center Township supervisors for their persistence and Congressman Glenn Thompson for following through on his pledge to resolve the post office situation. Struzzi says the new post office will offer counter service for a few hours each day and around-the-clock access to P.O. boxes.
The former post office was torched in March of 2016. It was one of five arson fires set by then-20-year-old Aaron Liggett. He was sentenced in 2017 to serve one to eight years in state prison for the post office fire, two to eight years for a mobile home fire, and one month to four years for the three other fires, with all of the sentences running concurrently.
The new post office in Coral is expected to be completed in early January.
