Indiana County’s unemployment rate went down slightly over the month of August.
The Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry announced that in August, the county’s unemployment rate fell two-tenths of a percentage point to 7.1 percent. In August of 2020, unemployment was still higher due to the Covid-19 pandemic, with the Jobless rate at 9.3 percent.
Compared to the surrounding counties, Indiana is in the middle of the pack. Westmoreland County has the lowest unemployment rate with 6.2 percent. Jefferson County is slightly higher than that at 6.3 percent. Armstrong County is at 7.2 percent. Cambria County’s rate is 7.3 percent. Clearfield County has the highest unemployment rate in the region at 7.7 percent.
The lowest unemployment rate is Chester County at 4.3 percent, while tied for the highest are Fayette and Forest County at 9.0 percent.
Total non-farm jobs in Indiana County went up by 200 in July to 28,000 in August. Jobs were essentially unchanged over all nine published super-sectors.
