Max Kranick threw five shutout innings and four relievers threw a shutout inning each as the Pirates blanked the Phillies, 5-0 yesterday. Kranick got his second win, striking out five while giving up four hits and three walks. Cole Tucker hit a leadoff home run off the foul pole and Ke’Bryan Hayes had a pinch-hit two-run double in the 7th inning. Yoshi Tsutsugo knocked in two in the eighth inning with a single.
Manager Derek Shelton like the effort of his pitchers, Kranick, Chasen Shreve, David Bednar, Nick Mears, and Chris Stratton.
Shelton says the Bucs won in the only way this collection of players can win.
The Pirates will play a makeup game in Cincinnati today at 1:10. The pregame begins at 12:45 on WCCS.
