Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi says he expects that his team leaders will help prevent any letdown for the Panthers after their big win over Tennessee Saturday. The Panthers tackle Western Michigan at Heinz Field this Saturday and Narduzzi yesterday appealed to Pitt fans to show up and cheer them on, pointing out that the game won’t be on TV.
The coach says he has veterans, led by his quarterback, who will hold their teammates to a high standard against a good MAC conference team.
Quarterback Kenny Pickett was named to the Davey O’Brien Award’s Great 8 for his performance. Pickett threw for 285 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another. Panthers’ safety Brandon Hill was named ACC Co-Defensive Back of the Week for his performance against Tennessee. He grabbed an interception and had seven tackles in the game.
COLLEGE FOOTBALL
Two games into the season, USC fired head coach Clay Helton yesterday after a 42-28 loss Saturday to Stanford. Helton took over as USC’s head coach in 2015 and led the Trojans to three Pac-12 South Division titles, a Pac-12 Championship and 2017 Rose Bowl win. Donte Williams was named the program’s interim head coach for the rest of this season
