The Pirates’ Bryse Wilson could not hold off the Washington Nationals, who blasted three home runs in a 6-2 win at PNC Park, denying the Bucs another chance at a series sweep. Pittsburgh is 0-for-13 this season when they have a chance to sweep.
Lane Thomas, Luis Garcia, and Alex Avila all homered off Wilson, and Juan Soto also doubled and tripled for the Nationals. Soto reached base eight times out of his final nine at-bats in the series. The Pirates managed only five hits in the game, with the only extra-base hit being a triple by Kevin Newman, who had two hits on the afternoon.
