Week Three of the high school football season has arrived with some uncertainty due to covid-19 quarantines in some schools, but as of now, everyone in the Heritage Conference – and Indiana High as well – is prepared to play.
On WCCS tonight, Homer Center clashes with United in a backyard rivalry game. The Wildcats are 1-1 and the Lions 0-2 and beset with injuries that have cut the number of players available to coach Kevin Marabito.
Wildcats coach Greg Page says his team has to be ready for a determined Lions team.
United coach Kevin Marabito says Homer Center Week is always special, and he knows the Wildcats will be ready.
On Cat Country 106.3 FM, undefeated Marion Center visits River Valley, which won in Week One but had its game last week at West Shamokin canceled.
Stingers coach Adam Rising knows the Panthers will feature a strong running game with Angelo Bartolini and Sincere McFarlin. He says his football team is improving, but has a lot of room to grow.
On 92.5 FM U92 tonight, it’s the renewal of the Coal Bowl between homestanding Cambria Heights and Northern Cambria.
Colts coach Sam Shutty says it’s exciting to renew the rivalry with Cambria Heights, and he’s taken special care to let the players know about the Coal Bowl tradition.
Cambria Heights coach Jarrod Lewis has coaches on his staff who played in the Coal Bowl. He says it will be a special night.
Other games in the Heritage Conference tonight include West Shamokin, hoping to be healthy enough to play at Purchase Line after missing last week’s game because of quarantine and injuries. And Penns Manor welcomes Southern Huntingdon to Pat Corrigan Field in an out-of-conference game.
At Andy Kuzneski Field tonight and on WDAD, Indiana Area takes on a beleaguered Derry Area team that has surrendered more than 60 points in each of its first two games. Indiana is 1-1 and coming off a 44-7 win over Burrell.
Coach Brandon Overdorff says his team played much better football last week than it did in its first game against Ligonier Valley.

Covid-19 has shuffled the schedule for a number of western Pennsylvania teams. Quarantine forced the cancellation of tonight’s scheduled WestPac game between Windber and Conemaugh Township, and the game between North Star and Conemaugh Valley. So after scheduling Hughesville, a team almost 200 miles away and being notified at the last minute that Hughesville had pulled out, North Star got together with Windber. Windber will travel to North Star tonight.
And Berlin-Brothersvalley, which had an open date, found a game tonight at District 6 Mount Union after Tussey Mountain pulled out of its game with the Trojans.
