Linebacker TJ Watt was a full practice participant yesterday, despite no announcement on a new contract, as the Steelers continued preparing for Sunday’s season opener at Buffalo.
Coach Mike Tomlin said Watt should be a “go” for Sunday.
New Steeler linebacker Joe Schobert, who was a year ahead of Watt at Wisconsin, said he’s excited to play with his old college teammate.
Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said the entire Steelers organization is anxious to start the season.
Big Ben also said TJ Watt deserves to be the highest-paid defensive player in football and that the reason he took a pay cut this offseason was so there would be money available to sign Watt.
The Steeler injury report yesterday included starting center Kendrick Green, with a thumb injury, linebacker Alex Highsmith, with a groin injury, and nose tackle Tyson Alualu, who has a sore elbow.
The NFL season will kick off tonight when the defending Super Bowl Champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers playing host to the Dallas Cowboys. It will be 44-year-old Tom Brady leading the Bucs against the returning Dak Prescott and the Cowboys.
