Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi held his weekly news conference in advance of this Saturday’s game at Tennessee, which is being referred to as the “Johnny Majors Classic”. Majors was a star running back at Tennessee who later coached both the Volunteers and Pitt, who he led to the 1976 national championship with a 12-0 record and a Sugar Bowl win.
Even though Pitt has not played Tennessee since 1983, Narduzzi says that both teams will be familiar with each other, since Vols coach Josh Heupel came from Central Florida, where his teams played Pitt. Narduzzi likes the challenge.
Pitt beat UMass 51-7 in its season, while Tennessee won over Bowling Green 38-6. Narduzzi says Tennessee plays big-time football.
Saturday’s game kicks off at noon on WCCS.
