As the Steelers begin game-week preparations for the Buffalo Bills in the season opener this Sunday, TJ Watt still awaits a new long-term contract.
The star linebacker is entering the final year of his rookie deal as the Steelers picked up his fifth-year option, and the two sides have been negotiating throughout training camp, with Watt working out on his own to avoid an injury during the talks. The Steelers do not negotiate during the season, so the contract must be worked out this week.
After viewing today at the South Hills Bible Chapel in McMurray, the funeral service for Steelers broadcaster Tunch Ilkin will be held tomorrow at 2 PM. Ilkin was a youth pastor at the church. He died Saturday at age 63 from ALS.
Ilkin retired as a Steelers broadcaster in June, having revealed his diagnosis last September. He had not been seen in public for some time and had spent the final 10 days of his life in the hospital with pneumonia. He was selected for the Steelers’ Hall of Honor Class of 2021 and had planned to attend the November ceremony.
