PIRATES’ MINORS
Altoona lost for the fifth straight time, falling 5-0 to Akron. Jack Sulwinski had two hits for the Curve for the second straight game.
The Pirates High-A Greensboro team continues to turn heads in the minor leagues. The Grasshoppers raised their record to 67-38 with a doubleheader sweep of the Yankees’ Hudson Valley High-A team.
Last year’s top draft pick, Nick Gonzalez, continued to abuse Class A pitching, going 2-for-4 with a double and triple in the first game, a 10-7 win. 2019 first rounder Quinn Priester had another dominating performance in the nightcap, with six scoreless innings in a 2-0 shutout.
Priester is 7-3 overall with a five-game winning streak. He’s pitched 12 straight scoreless innings, striking out nineteen. Opponents are hitting only .216 off him this year.
