The Steelers got down to the NFL’s 53-man roster limit yesterday by releasing a number of players, among them veteran punter Jordan Berry, long snapper Kameron Canaday, and running back Jaylen Samuels.
The cuts also included linebacker Quincy Roche, the team’s sixth-round draft choice this year. He was the only draft choice not to make the team. Undrafted rookie Jamir Jones beat him out.
Also on the cut list yesterday was veteran free agent Arthur Maulet, who was competing for the nickel cornerback job. Quarterback Josh Dobbs was placed on injured reserve.
Coach Mike Tomlin says cutdown day is never easy.
The Steelers can sign as many as 16 players to the practice squad starting today, and Roche will certainly be on that list.
