With training camp now officially over and preparations underway for Saturday’s season opener against UMass, Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi says everyone is eager to get going. Narduzzi held his first in-season news conference yesterday.
The coach says his guys can’t wait to get on the field.
Narduzzi says UMass will be a challenge, even though they aren’t highly regarded.
There are still some position battles going on, including the kicker’s job. Narduzzi says neither Ben Sauls nor Sam Scarton has seized the job just yet, and “they both deserve to kick.” He’ll have to settle on one of them by Saturday. The coach also said Carter Warren and Gabe Huoy will be his starting offensive tackles, but both are being pushed by redshirt sophomore Matt Goncalves and redshirt freshman Branson Taylor.
Saturday’s Pitt game airs on WCCS, with kickoff scheduled for 4 o’clock.
Another big opener on Saturday happens in the Big Ten when 19th-ranked Penn State visits 12th-ranked Wisconsin.
