Indiana County’s unemployment rate went up slightly for the month of July.
The Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry reported that the county’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for July went up four-tenths of a percentage point to 7.0 percent. As Indiana County’s rate went up, the state-wide rate went down three-tenths of a percent to 6.6 percent. The national rate also went down by half a percentage point to 5.4 percent.
Comparing Indiana County to the neighboring counties, Westmoreland County checked in with a 6.1 percent rate. Jefferson County’s unemployment rate is at 6.4 percent, Clearfield and Cambria counties have a 7.2 percent rate, Armstrong county has the highest at 7.7 percent.
Total non-farm jobs in Indiana County were down 400 in June to 27,800 in July. Jobs were essentially unchanged over the month in the nine industry super-sectors. Government declined by 300 due to IUP going on Summer Break.
