What a weekend for the USA U16 women’s basketball team, which last night knocked off previously unbeaten Canada, 118-45, in the 2021 FIBA Americas U16 Championship gold medal game in Leon, Mexico.
Tournament MVP JuJu Watkins scored a record 28 points for Team USA.
The dominant Team USA outscored Mexico, 121-30, in the semis and 121-12 over Costa Rica in the quarters. In their six games in the tournament, they never scored fewer than 115 points and never gave up more than 43.
IUP women’s coach Tom McConnell served as an assistant coach for the team. USA Basketball has claimed the gold medal in six of the seven editions of the event and close the 2021 tournament with an all-time record of 36-1.
