Police in Blairsville Borough have charged a Blairsville man in connection with a chase that went into Derry Township last night.
Police say around 8:49 PM on Sunday, police tried to stop a sports car for an expired registration, but the driver ignored the lights and siren and began to flee police on South Walnut Street at a high rate of speed. The pursuit lead into Derry Township, when the vehicle tried to turn right onto Cherry Street. The vehicle couldn’t make the turn cleanly and the vehicle went off the road, into the wet grass and eventually stopped.
The driver, identified by police as 32-year-old Paul Lester Eckenroad gave himself up. Not only is he charged with fleeing or attempting to elude police, reckless driving, driving while suspended or revoked, failure to provide a driver’s license, emissions violation, faulty inspection sticker and driving an unregistered vehicle, he also had a traffic warrant out for him as well.
Eckenroad was taken to Indiana County Jail to await arraignment on charges from both the chase and the warrant.
