Fast-acting firefighters prevented a fire from consuming a mobile home in Washington Township last night.
Indiana County 911 dispatched Creekside, Plumville, Marion Center, Indiana, and Elderton firefighters along with Team 900 and Citizens Ambulance to the home on Oak Tree Road just before 8:30 PM.
The Marion Center Fire Department reports finding a working kitchen fire when they arrived, with flames visible from the road. Creekside firefighters used a pressurized water can to extinguish the flames coming from the stove, walls, and cabinets while others deployed a hand line from a truck. Marion Center was then sent back to standby at their station (to rejoin their bingo night), while Plumville and Elderton were canceled en route.
Firefighters then checked out the rest of the mobile home to ensure there were no more trouble spots, while Indiana did a secondary check of the kitchen.
The fire may have started in the propane-fueled stove, which was separated from the tank and removed.
The mobile home’s occupant, who was not publicly identified, suffered burns and was treated at the scene.
