Steven Brault had himself a stellar outing against one of baseball’s best teams in the Los Angeles Dodgers, however poor in-game management and a mix of base-running blunders resulted in the Dodgers taking the series opener on Monday night.
Here’s Joe Block with the recap. (Dodgers – 2, Pirates – 1)
The Pirates and Dodgers return for game two tonight. Here’s Joe Block with a preview.
Pirates will send Wil Crowe (3-7, 5.27 ERA) to the mound tonight. Opposing him for Los Angeles will be southpaw David Price (4-1, 3.60 ERA). Airtime on WCCS 101.1 FM and AM 1160 is 9:45 p.m.
Pirates manager Derek Shelton said Brault looked sharp on the mound against one of the toughest lineups in baseball.
The Pirates ran themselves into trouble offensively last night… no really, they ran themselves into trouble, as Ke’Bryan Hayes and Rodolfo Castro ran poorly on the base paths, resulting in blown opportunities. Shelton said the Pirates need to clean that up.
The Pirates continued to shake up their roster yesterday, officially announcing the signing of former Japanese star Yoshi Tsutsugo. Sources say it’s a Major League contract; however no details on contract length or how much it is worth is available yet.
What we do know is that he settled into the Pirates roster quickly, as he hit an opposite field double against Dodgers’ closer Kenley Jansen in his only at-bat last night.
Shelton said Tsutsugo kept it simple in his approach.
With the announcement of Tsutsugo’s signing, the Pirates needed to clear space in order to get him on the active roster. To do so, they not only reinstated outfielder Ka’ai Tom from the 10-day injured list then subsequently designated him for assignment, but they also designated first baseman John Nogowski for assignment.
There is still one spot left on the Pirates’ 40-man roster.
MLB:
Big-time baseball is coming back to Iowa. NBC Sports Chicago is reporting that the Chicago Cubs will play the Cincinnati Reds in next year’s Field of Dreams game in Dyersville, Iowa. The game is reportedly going to be played on Thursday, August 11th, 2022.
Cubs manager David Ross accidentally told reporters of the team being a part of next year’s game, just a day before the White Sox and New York Yankees put on a corn-filled show.
